SEMH stands for social, emotional and mental health. It describes young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, relationships, anxiety or behaviour. They often find these harder in a mainstream setting.
Teaching and support
-
A vocational curriculum blends academic learning with hands-on, practical experience. At The Green, programmes are built around each student's strengths and interests. They aim to develop creativity, independence and confidence. They also prepare young people for a meaningful future beyond school.
-
We use trauma-informed practice, therapeutic support and consistent relationships so learners can reconnect with learning and rebuild confidence. Staff work with families, local services and professionals to provide wraparound support. This helps each young person grow socially, emotionally and academically.
-
We follow a "communication over conflict" approach. Staff model positive resolution. Students learn to pause, self-regulate and reflect on their behaviour, and they are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions. Clear expectations and consistent guidance help young people handle difficult situations constructively.
-
Social skills are valued as highly as academic achievement. Every project includes practical life skills, so students gain applied experience. We also work with local businesses and authorities to create opportunities for students to contribute and gain meaningful experience. The aim is that they leave confident and capable.

Yes. We support families and carers, and we work closely with local services and professionals. This gives each learner joined-up support in school and at home.
