At The Green, our flexible and wide-ranging curriculum empowers every learner to excel in ways that genuinely inspire and motivate them. We recognise that the constraints of mainstream education can feel alienating and poorly suited to the specialist needs of our young people. That’s why we take a different approach.

We look beyond traditional classroom conventions and open up the wider world as a place of learning. Our provision balances structured, class-based teaching with practical, hands-on experiences that take learning well beyond the desk. Creativity, innovation, and imagination sit at the heart of our practice.

Above all, we are committed to preparing our learners to live healthy, happy, and fulfilling adult lives. Supporting them to develop independence, confidence, and a strong sense of self is the driving force behind everything we do.

Our Three Key
Curriculum Areas

At The Green, our curriculum is built around three interconnected areas: My Foundation, My Being, and Our World. Together, they nurture the analytical, social, and practical skills every young person needs to grow with confidence and purpose.

Each area provides opportunities for students to work towards recognised qualifications while developingessential aspects of their identity, wellbeing, and rolewithin the wider community.

Our Curriculum

Intensive Supportand Equal Opportunity

At The Green, we are committed to providing every learner with the support they need to thrive. Our low student-to-staff ratio allows us to work closely with each young person, tailoring our educational approach and setting realistic, achievable goals. Because we understand that every learner’s journey is different, we offer flexible one-to-one support and continuously review our methods, introducing new ideas and adjusting strategies whenever needed.

Each curriculum area is led by an experienced leader who oversees its core elements and collaborates closely with other area leads. This ensures that all aspects of learning connect seamlessly, giving students a balanced, well-rounded educational experience. Our intensive support model plays a vital role in building trust and confidence—key foundations for long-term personal and academic growth.

A Holistic Education

Our curriculum is designed around a “Needs Based, Skills Focused and Learner Centred” philosophy. We aim to develop the social, emotional and academic skills that empower students to lead fulfilling lives—at home, in the workplace, and in their communities.

This approach is informed by Bronfenbrenner’s Bio-ecological Model of Child Development, which views human development as a dynamic process shaped by ongoing interactions between the individual and their environment. By recognising the influence of these interconnected ‘spheres’—from family and peers to school and the wider community—we are able to better understand our learners, their motivations, and their aspirations as they grow and develop.
